I always complain about not being able to find red chile peppers but for some reason it never occurred to me to grow my own. (And by that I mean ask my husband to grow some.) Next year we're going to copy you and grow some. The beet tarte tatin looks especially delicious--I had no idea you could eat beet skins. I'm hoping to make that one soon.Jorahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03551478803291803446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1985611815592792914.post-85970883811308235762014-11-03T23:49:32.866-08:002014-11-03T23:49:32.866-08:00Great recipes this month. Your salad looked great as is! The beet tarte tatin was amazing wasn't it. I used a bag of fresh beetroot but they were old and a variety of sizes. I peeled them and had to cut some down so they were all about the same size. Presentation wasn't as great but still tasted fantastic - I love this recipe. Squash in the Vegeree sounds like a great addition. I read the instructions for the rice and just did the basmati how I always do it. Sounded like to much hassle!! Turned out just fine. I really enjoyed your photographs and the time and care you shared with each recipe dish. Though my month did not permit me to prepare nearly what I had planned, I am quite inspired to forge through on some of these dishes, this week, beginning with the red beet tart tatin and I can see you are yet another fan of this dish- I can't wait! Also, the Broccoli Salad with Asian dressing appears delicious and simple to put together. Thanks for sharing your great work! This year I actually picked them all - they are sitting on my counter waiting to be ground. The vegeree does make for a one dish meal, though it does need a bit of tweeking to up the flavor. I'm so impressed that you not only made the chile oil for the soup (sorry it didn't work out) but that you grow your own Thai chiles! Each is different and both very complimentary. So, why not. Now I wish I had made every one of these veggie dishes. (And, since I am a cheese addict, I will not forget to add the cheese. I am worried that we are cooking through this book so fast and that I'm never going to get to all the recipes I have bookmarked. Your photograph is stunning (just like our leader's). I especially like the fifth photo (the garlic) although the shredded carrot is beautiful also. I think you should make a montage of these pix (like your first photo, and use it on a card of some kind. I have a montage of dishes I prepared as my business card and I am just now updating it and creating a new montage. I also share your thoughts on the beet tarte. It must be eaten immediately because the crust does get soggy. That's what makes it a difficult dinner party dish. All your choices looked yummy.
